" Our job is to deliver to you, our client, quality translation at an appropriate price "

" Machine translation is no good because you need to understand a text to translate it: to understand its meaning, its context and its cultural background."

The Portuguese Language

Portuguese translators must have a very good knowledge of the language in order to do a good translation.

Example:

The word "decorar" has the following meanings:

1 - to learn by heart

2 - to decorate

The majority of Portuguese dictionaries don't give definitions of the different meanings a word may have. They normally give synonyms. So if one doesn't know the idiom well one can construct some strange sentences

Another difficulty is the difference of terms between Brazil and Portugal.

Example:

English: The left pocket of the brown suit.

Brazil : O bolso esquerdo do terno marron.

Portugal : A algibeira canhota do fato castanho.

Portugal is known as the Portuguese Republic and is the westernmost country in Europe. The capital of Portugal is Lisbon and the only country to share a border with Portugal is Spain. Portugal has a population of just over 10 million people. Portugal is a member of the European Union and NATO.

Although Portugal has a small population with respect to other European countries, Portuguese is one of the world major languages and is spoken by over 250 million native speakers. Along with Portugal, Portuguese is the official language in Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, and São Tomé and Príncipe with the largest population of Portuguese speakers living in Brazil (nearly 200 million people).

Portuguese is a member of the Romance family of languages and is derived from Latin. The worldwide spread of the language took place in the 15th and 16th centuries as the Portuguese empire expanded. Today, for Portuguese translations the global market offers great opportunities to any company trading in the Portuguese language.
